Art Pastels

Help me give my students an opportunity to work with a new art material. We have been creating with many different materials, but have not been able to experiment with chalk pastels.

My Students

My students are awesome! They love to create art! We have been creating many art projects in many media.

My students are an energetic and enthusiastic group of elementary students from a city in Massachusetts called Lowell.

Lowell is an inner-city school district and faces many challenges such as funding art education. At home, most of the students have no exposure to art-making materials and techniques.

We love creating art! Unfortunately, we work within a very limited budget. I just placed my material order for the 2019/2020 school year. The budget provides less than one dollar per student per year. I was not able to purchase all the materials on my list to give my students a well-rounded art experience.

My Project

Chalk pastels are really fun to work with. I have a set in my art studio at home. They are easy to blend, used to add texture to paintings, and will turn into the paint with liquid cornstarch!

Students will love the special effects that are only achieved using chalk pastels.

Chalk pastels are very different than regular chalk and cost much more. We are not able to afford chalk pastels on the school budget.

This project will give students a chance to use an exciting material that creates unique textures. Each box contains 72 colors; students will be delighted to use many new colors.
