Help me give my students a hands on experience via Zoom! I hope to create Art Packs for students to pick up from school. This way, via Zoom, we can create Shinto Japanese Fans and Medieval Illuminated Letters.
My students are a diverse group from various cultural and economic backgrounds. Some qualify for free or reduced-price lunches at school, some are ELD students who are new immigrants developing their English literacy, and many students come from the various cultural backgrounds that make up our beautiful city.
For some of these students, our school offers engaging enrichment experiences that they may not receive outside of the school setting.
Because of Covid-19, creating engaging lessons has become a challenge for all teachers as we quickly rewrite our lessons for a digital platform at my school as we prepare for "Distance Learning." Despite this pandemic, and despite that I am teaching from my garage, I would still like to deliver art projects via Zoom. In these projects, students will create a Shinto fan and also Illuminated Letters.
In this time of Distance Learning, I would like to create enriching opportunities! I want to make sure I can reach every student through our Zoom Calls and Video Lessons.
My Project
Art Packs for History Zooms! I love teaching World History art projects and usually do something creative each year. This year through Zoom I hope to continue this tradition. Will you help me gather supplies for art packs to send home with students for our online Zoom classes?
This year I hope that we can create Shinto fans for our Medieval Japan unit and Illuminated Letters for our Medieval Europe unit.
To complete these projects, we can not share materials as we usually do! This year, because of Covid Health risks, I must send home materials for students to keep for one time use only. This makes the art projects a little more costly. I already have white paper fans and cardstock, but I still need ziplock bags, metallic gold pens, and stencils.
Can you imagine a class of 7th graders cheering, "Yay, it's art day!" This Donors Choose submission will influence history lessons for almost 160 students! Receiving your donations will put a smile on my students' faces and will bring joy to the Zoom classroom!
These cultural projects allow us to discuss world cultures and to learn about our diversity. Using creative projects at the end of each cultural unit is powerful for students as they often break through stereotypes and appreciate new cultures.
These projects are highly motivational for my students who will experience great pleasure by learning through the arts. Through creative learning, students can increase their awareness of how different cultures add to the diversity of our world in positive ways.
