Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school in a low socioeconomic area in Northern California, where the majority of students are English Language Learners. Each of my students comes to school with their own challenges, but they all want to learn and be successful. This is my 21st year of teaching and each year comes with new stresses and strains. There are so many things I want to do with my kids but budgets often get in the way. I am always looking for new ideas and ways to help enhance my students learning and development.
My Project
My students love visual arts time in class. They are very active, busy and creative. Extra time is needed to allow them to have a creative outlet while outdoors. This project will allow them to be creative in an outdoor setting with an easel, smocks, paint, and paper to create their works of art, develop fine motor skills, as well as express their creativity while enjoying nature and the world around them. Visual arts allow children to express their feelings, and to plan, and follow through with their idea. It allows for problem solving, thinking, and personal expression. The children will also gain knowledge about how to use these new tools, and how to care for them as well.
