As a small, culturally diverse public middle school, our students are passionate and hardworking. Located on Roosevelt Island in NYC, our school represents residents of Roosevelt Island who have decided to remain in their local school. Many of our students are part of underrepresented communities and come from low-mid income households. Each day our students use their creativity to express themselves both in the classroom and at home.
Our mission is to foster a safe, nurturing community that supports the success of all students.
As teachers and staff, we focus on the individual learner through standards-based curricula and enrichment in the arts, sciences, and other areas. By developing students’ individual growth mindset, essential skills and habits, we inspire them to become well-rounded citizens who think critically, act responsibly, and embrace differences.
My Project
Since our first DonorsChoose, students have been using the materials to create short films to create their stories. However, our last piece is needed to have professional quality films to submit to other student film festivals. Having the audio we need would change our class from an introduction to a full film course.
Currently, our audio is being served by hand held cameras which while helpful does not cut out background sounds in our busy school and city.
With your help, our students would learn to use new skills in audio management to help our stories become reality. With this equipment, our stories will finally be ready for others to experience.
