I teach an amazing and creative group of Title I students. They are so passionate about trying new things and pursuing skills that will give them a fighting chance to take life into their own hands. They strive for success, despite the adversity of their situations outside of school, and want to give back to others. I would like to create an inviting and unique space for my students to have class in. I want my classroom to be unlike other classes and give them the opportunity to have even more choice.
The art classroom is moving away from the cookie-cutter styled art to giving students more choices in how they create. I think that it is powerful to create an environment that feeds into that pedagogy. I am currently seeking and purchasing flexible seating that is relevant to my middle school students.
I want to empower my students with the freedom to create in a unique and choice based environment.
I feel that flexible seating practice has grown and worked well for the core content classes; I would love to add some more flexible seating to the art room and see how it can change the classroom environment and accommodate more of my students' needs.
