Our school serves students in grades preK-5 and provides rigorous academics, dedicated teachers and a safe learning environment. Our students come from a variety of different cultural and economic backgrounds. All of our students are eligible to receive free meals at school. In addition, over half of my students started school with English as their second language. Despite many challenges, our students come to school ready to do their best work.
My students are full of positive energy, taking on each new challenge with enthusiasm.
They especially love art, engineering, and reading. Our classroom theme is kindness and our school prides itself on being an Ohana or family.
Our community school is Title I funded and is a community of students who love STEAM learning. Our rules are shown kindness and respect, make good decisions, and be a problem solver.
Did you know that recent research has proven that students retain more information when they create related art projects?
Students will be using both the canvases and watercolor papers to model their understanding of scientific phenomena.
I will be teaching new hands-on Next Generation Science Lessons developed in partnership with Cal State East Bay and the Alameda County Office of Education. Based on current research, art projects were embedded in the Earth Science and Life Cycle Units. Title one students retain information longer and have a better understanding of material when their learning is anchored to art. In addition to painting, students will be using shrink plastic to create sculptures.
