This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Self-expression is a release that students need now, more than ever. I teach art to high school students and they are dying to get started on creating so as to forget the stresses that have come with this pandemic. My students come from less fortunate families and most in this area are low income. They want to create but do not have the resources. What I am aiming for through this project is to provide them with simple art materials to get their art journey started during their teenage years. My students are taking Art I with me, which means it's the first art class for them in high school. I want to be able to impress them with the materials available to them, even during these rough times.
My Project
These are a few items I need for my Art I students in order to finish the school year off in the best, creative way. The air-dry clay can be used at home as well as in school instead of normal clay that needs a kiln to harden. The paint offers my students a bigger array of colors. The rest of the supplies are essential for our art-making this year. I want my students to have options during this year that seems hopeless when it comes to getting the things you want.
