My Students
I have wonderfully resilient students! They are meeting the challenges of distance learning and rising to the occasion. I admire my students and their willingness to remain flexible and engaged, even though they are physically distant from their peers and teacher. Each year, my class engages in various art activities and I want this year to be no different. Please support me in providing art materials to my students.
My Project
My students will be lent art materials to complete asynchronous art assignments. I will also teach art in synchronous classes for them to participate as a whole group. As a class, we will draw, paint, and sculpt together.
Our current research project focus is Indigenous history, which is essential to understanding US history. I intend to give each student clay for the art component of making pottery modeled after the tribes of the desert Southwest. Later, we will use watercolors to draw portraits of social justice heroes we research.
The myriad of art projects, connected to our curriculum, can be designed for the distance learning model if I have all the materials. Supporting this project will allow me to teach art and encourage the engagement of all students.
