With the increased amount of standardized testing, children today are under a great deal of pressure! I am a fourth grade teacher near the Chicago Loop who wants to get up to her elbows in paint with her students! To help my class of 31 fourth grade students learn, I would like to integrate art into the curriculum. Art not only provides a creative outlet for my students, but can be used to enrich lessons across the curriculum. This especially is important for my class because we do not have art classes half the year. I am requesting funds for materials that would help jump-start the projects I have in mind including: painted clay pots, mini plaster masks, Origami figures, bookmarks and murals corresponding to our book report books. (supplies include markers, paint, clay, glitter glue, plaster rolls, origami paper, sequins and feathers) My students have grown up in inner-city and downtown Chicago and like all children have been bombarded with TV, Video games and other mind-numbing media. They have had limited opportunities to develop creativity and abstract thought. I would like that to change this year! Please help me bring the joy back to learning!
