Middle school students can be full of energy. They are funny, awkward, caring, shy, and outgoing, and they love to learn. They get wrapped up in hands-on, active, engaging projects and exercises that foster their creativity. My students constantly crave new experiences and appreciate learning in different ways. Sometimes they act like they are too cool, but they love making art.
My Title I school has many students who live in transitional housing.
Normally, the art classroom is a place where all students can forget the world and focus on exploration and growth. Now students are mostly working on their own, and some in tough circumstances.
My Project
Art journaling is a great and creative way for students to express their unusual experiences while attending distance learning. My students are exploring this art form and learning techniques to communicate their feelings. These art journals give students a much needed break from the computer and hands-on activities that are natural stress relievers.
The school provides student with a sketchbook, but many students only have a pencil to create their entries.
I am asking for watercolor, washi tape, and Micron pens for students to take home to enhance their entries and expand their ability to experiment and grow.
