Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are full of incredible ideas and experiences, Art is the place where we get to create something new with that information. My classroom is a choice based environment in which the students are responsible for generating and creating original art.

My students live in a very challenging urban neighborhood that is plagued with gangs, drugs, and poverty.

They amaze me with their ability to communicate their emotions and beliefs at such a young age. They are loving and accepting and have developed a real love for creativity.

My Project

I am requesting 130 Art Journals for my entire roster of Middle School students. This will give them an opportunity to keep a record of their ideas, focus their creative work, and develop creative behaviors. They will learn to organize, prioritize, and manage their ideas from idea to product. This will build skills that will help them with projects and work they will encounter for the rest of their lives.

This will be the first and only journal that many of these students have.

It will provide an opportunity for them to record their ideas and in turn, realize the value of these ideas. These kids will be creating new and innovative ideas that may lead to the next great invention or product!!
