Every day I open the door to a line of students eager to find out what we will create together. My six art classes include 6-8th graders with varying skill levels and experience in the arts. My classes include mainstreamed students from all three of our special needs classes. 59% of our student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch.
Our culturally and ethnically diverse students choose to take art classes because they want to enrich their lives, express their innermost feelings and let's be honest, they also want to get messy and make stuff!
"Art is literacy of the heart," according to art education professor, Elliot Eisner. It's my goal to bring literature packed with colorful and relevant imagery to my students in an effort to increase literacy and give them exposure to contemporary, multicultural artists and their art.
In these uncertain times, I want to help provide digital access to high quality art literature and materials to my students who may not be able to attend school in person.
With this subscription, students will have access to both hard copies and digital copies. Our students have district issued iPads for direct access to Scholastic online.
