We have 107 students in our small, rural community. Our population is <50% free and reduced price lunch. We have a great, caring community both inside and outside the school.
At our elementary school every child is an artist.
Our PreK-5 students are motivated, creative children who thrive in the art studio. Our art studio provides a space for students to build skills, participate in art challenges and create incredible original artwork. All students, grades PreK-5, participate in art at PES.
My Project
The materials in this project will be put in bags for students to have at home in case our students are sent home. Last spring, many of the students wanted to participate in art projects but did not have the materials to do them at home. Right now our district is in person at school, but with the uncertainty of Covid, that could change in a heartbeat.
The art supplies in the bag will give students hands-on experiences to help strengthen their fine motor skills and engage their creativity at home.
Virtual art lessons would use the materials sent home in the bag for lessons. Students can practice clay techniques with model magic and build people and animals with pipe cleaners. Drawing paper and pencil will give them the opportunity to sketch. Glue and scissors will let them practice the art of collage. Creating and building gives PES joy and I believe the art bags will engage them and help in coping with a stressful situation.
