Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low socioeconomic and often rough area of Los Angeles. Although they do not live in the best of neighborhoods, I strive to give them the best education for a brighter future.
My students are 48 energetic, inquisitive, smart 5-6-year-old students from diverse backgrounds in the dual language program.
They consist of 50% English Language Learners with a Latino background and 50% English only students with Latino and African American backgrounds. I love that my students are diverse in their backgrounds and in their Spanish abilities. They are able to learn from each other as they begin their journey into bi-literacy and bilingualism.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of art supplies to keep my students working their creativity all year long. All of these supplies will be used in various projects throughout the year.
Art is powerful: it stimulates creativity, it's therapeutic, and it's fun, and I want my kindergarteners to have access to as many art supplies as possible.
One of my favorite activities during the year is creating class portrait with the face paper. It also involves a good discussion around skin colors. The construction paper is used for clothes and the paints are used for decorating. Besides that, the supplies are used for other seasonal projects, such as decorating a christmas tree, making sea creatures, creating collages. The list is endless.
