Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Teaching first grade in a low-income, Latino community has its challenges. As a retired classical flutist, one of the most depressing aspects to witness is my student's lack of exposure to the fine arts. Even though I often play my flute for them, and show them educational videos on the fine arts and also lead them in artistically-based projects, my kids deserve to experience the amazing visual arts of their fair city, Chicago. Because most of the parent population is pre-occupied with work, other children and less than appealing personal problems, my kids are fine arts-ignorant. Please help me take them to see some of the incredible art at the famous Art Institute of Chicago. They offer kid-friendly tours led by very knowledgeable docents. There is no admission/tour fee for the museum but, unfortunately, students have to share the burden of paying for their own bus transportation. I am uncomfortable asking my future first graders to pay for the bus. The fine arts are for everyone; not just those who can afford it!
