My Students
My second graders come from a diverse background and can be very expressive when it comes to engaging in art projects and activities. Much of the items I have requested are not available to them and would benefit them in their fine motor development, creativity, hand-eye coordination and literacy development. Furthermore, my students are limited in available resources due to their families economic background. My students a part of a free breakfast and lunch program and have little knowledge regarding art supplies that aren't ordinarily supplied by the school. Therefore, I feel it's it's imperative they have experiences that will enhance their knowledge of art and its medium.
In providing them with art experiences through a variety of art media they will have opportunities for creativity as well as experiencing the success of completing individual and group projects.
My Project
In selecting these art materials I have found them to be the most appropriate for my second graders. From my observations and research, I have chosen from a list that included 25 of the best kids art supplies. Many of my students come from low-income families that don't have access to art supplies that will enhance their overall education. I want to provide art materials they possibly could be unfamiliar with. The oil pastels, tissue paper, pompoms and pipe cleaners are valuable supplies that our school doesn't cover in our school catalog and provide numerous ways of incorporating them into a variety of art projects.
The Storex classroom caddy will alleviate unnecessary classroom space and clutter and provide an efficient way to store art supplies.
The Crayola Colors Washable Kids Paint as well as the Crafty Dab poster paint will be a safe method for protecting student's clothing. The use of Play-Doh will enhance the learning of math shapes and structure, participation in classroom projects.
The Crafty Dab Poster Paint provides a medium that is bursting with color allowing my students to explore new techniques and expand their creative talents. Play dough helps my younger students develop muscle tone in their hands and encourages prewriting skills. Furthermore, it's calming, provides for social development, promotes play through children's imaginations.
The material list will relate to different areas of study, including science and social studies. This will further their focus on how the expansion of ideas through the arts has a direct relation too what they're studying, learning about, and foster further knowledge.
