I was born and raised in Hāna. I’m honored to teach in Hāna, Maui in the state of Hawaiʻi. We’re geographically isolated and therefore have strong community relationships. Our kupuna (elders) are revered and pass on knowledge to future generations.
The mission of our school is Kaʻike a ke kulanakauhale a pau he hei na ke keiki (the knowledge of the whole village is absorbed by the child).
I love that my students have dreams for the future. In my room, I have engineers, scientists, artists, fisherman, hunters, farmers, mathematicians, doctors, authors or whatever their hearts desire.
My students need art supplies so they can let their creative juices flow. We have a limited amount of art supplies and I feel that my students will benefit from watercolors, tempera paint, scissors, and shrink film as well as construction paper. Also, my students will be able work in groups and use a Tri-Fold display.
Art is amazing ways for students to connect with each other and their surroundings.
We live in Hawai'i and our 'aina is so powerful and can inspire children. I can't wait to see the amazing things my students can create given the proper tools!
