I teach digital graphics and 3D animation to a diverse population of high school students ranging from 9th through 12th grades. Over the years I have worked with students from all economic backgrounds, ethnicity, and learning abilities. These students are unique individuals who have brought a variety of unique experiences into my classrooms. They have taught me to have more patience, compassion, understanding, and acceptance.
Teaching can be both exhilarating and exhausting at times.
However, I never felt more energized than after a class that has gone well. This is especially so when working with students with learning disabilities. Working with these amazing students and watching them light up with every new skills they learned was invigorating. They inspire me to be a better teacher and to continue to improve and create differentiated lessons to ensure students’ success.
The opportunity to participate in the Pathfinder Summer Institute to incorporate STEM into my curriculum will enable me to make learning more relevant for today’s educational needs.
As technology advances, there has never been a brighter outlook for our young people in computer science.
Opportunities ranging from areas in infrastructure to entertainment, computer-assisted learning, and cyber security there is certainly no shortage of opportunities for our young people.
This workshop will enable me to reach out to students who normally have no interest nor see themselves in computer science. It will broaden their knowledge and views and hopefully spark their interest to become potential coders; integrating their creativity with computer science.
