The students in my classroom have qualified for our state-funded preschool due to a variety of risk factors. Some are eligible because of absent parents, illness in the home, documented behavioral disorders, or learning difficulties. Some are English language learners. Most qualify due to low income. Our program is completely free to them and provides 2 meals and one snack per day. The program goal is to take preschool students who are at risk of educational failure and provide them with a high-quality preschool experience. My four-year-olds are excited to learn and love coming to school! My associate teacher and I focus on learning each child’s needs and addressing them in a loving, fun, supportive environment. We want them to learn the skills they need, but we also want them to have a very positive first experience with school! Most of them are especially needy in the areas of Language and Literacy. They absolutely love being creative in the Art Area! The room that we are in this year was not a classroom last year so we are working to build up the resources and materials to help our students have a successful, active learning experience. Thank you!
My Project
My preschool students LOVE the Art Area! They've used up most of the materials we have in stock. We're always running out of gluesticks. We've been borrowing smocks from other classrooms as the few we do have are old and torn. It would be wonderful to have a wall-mount easel that would not tip over, and I particularly love how the easel in this order has clips that look like the students may be able to work independently. Our room is on the small side and has an awkward shape. This easel would really save floor space! The small trays will be very useful for playdough and odd projects. I know, because I borrowed some from a teacher down the hall once! :)
My students love to create!
They enjoy expressing themselves with paint, paper, tape, stickers, pom poms, yarn, and anything else we can think of to put out for their use. They make gifts for family and friends. They make signs, shopping lists, collages, responses to books we've read, treasure maps, etc. They amaze me with their ideas!
The Art Area is the most consumable area of our classroom. It takes some creative thinking to keep it stocked to support my students' artistic endeavors. Thank you so much for your willingness to support my classroom! You're putting smiles on their faces...and art on their home refrigerators!
