Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are between the ages of three to five years old. They are very creative learners who love to explore new things. It is a very diverse group of students who have one thing in common, which is the desire to learn about new things. At this stage in their lives they learn by doing and are inspire as they are given the opportunities to engage in hands-on experiences. I have been a teacher for twenty years and my purpose in life is to educate as well as inspire these young creative minds.
My Project
Preschool students are full of so much wonderment and creativity. As they begin to understand who they are part of that discovery begins when they draw pictures of themselves. I like to encourage students to take a look at themselves in the mirror and study what they see.
Creating a self-portrait on a canvas will allow my students to capture a snapshot of who they are at this moment.
I would like to provide my students with an array of art materials, such as markers and tape, and encourage them to experiment with the materials as they engage in creating their own masterpiece.
I would love to have all my preschool students create a self-portrait to take home that will allow them to reflect back on how they represented themselves in those early years of their life. Encouraging students to make sense of their world begins with self awareness. We are all different and in many ways the same and part of self awareness is learning to love yourself and accept others.
