Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My K-to-5 elementary school is in Bronx, New York. The students come from low-income families and are disadvantaged.
Our school lunch program serves 98% of our total students.
The population is 95% Hispanic with the remainder African American and Asian Pacific.
Most of our students have no access to computers or any other technology. We have implemented a STEAM program which includes computer science at the school giving them access to computers and various creative materials at least two times a week.
We want to make it easier for our students to complete programming projects by completing them in a flexible seating classroom.
My Project
Our students need clay, paper, craft sticks, and Playfoam among other art supplies to increase their individual creativity to express their emotions and solve real-world problems.
All students will benefit from the art materials, especially our extensive ESL student population.
Give our ESL students a chance to communicate about feelings without having to use words in art classroom activities. I can brainstorm a list of emotions with my class and then set them free to create something that communicates one of those feelings with whatever art materials we have on hand.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
