My Students

Our young students have been staying home and learning from home. They don't know how long they will be missing their friends and school. The change in their daily lives has been huge and they are trying to cope with all these changes. It's difficult for them to understand social distancing rules (e.g. why they cannot meet grandparents, friends, others) and why does the news talk about people getting sick and dying. They need activties at home to keep them engaged yet stay calm in these uncertain conditions. This is the generation that will talk about the pandemic when they grow up to be adults and I want them to remember it as a time not of uncertainity or trauma but a time when they were able to enjoy a peaceful life at home, being creative and artistic.

My Project

I think these materials will give my students the opportunity to express their emotions and artistic abilities in various ways. We all know that every classroom is filled with art materials but not every home has the art supplies to support a child's artistic abilities. All students come with varying abilities in art and by using different art materials and media, students will be able to nourish their souls at home. This will also give them a chance to move away from screens and learn to explore their artistic side.
