My students need paint, pastels, pencils, and paper to help support the creation of visually appealing displays (titles and imagery) in all subjects; from our Annual Science Fair to Holiday Art Auction.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We have students that have many struggles in their lives and their education to overcome. Our students benefit from the small personal environment that we create for them. Our school offers a personal, safe and caring environment (a "Kindness Community") where we strive to meet our students' needs as individual learners. Scholars are given the opportunity to create expressive works grounded in utilizing new techniques and media; while understanding cultural aspects of the artists who created the works on whom we focus. Scholars are able to identify and describe social positions the artists we study stand for and, through this, we encourage independent thinking. These projects will scaffold content from Social Sciences and help scholars gain a better cultural understanding for that place and time in history. I want my students to approach new media with a positive outlook and not feel threatened by failure. Every artist knows that a blank canvas can be intimidating and this is especially the case for a novice. I will equip scholars with skills and techniques for utilizing new media in a successful way.
My Project
At my school, the art room is a place that students know they can go to seek creative support. For example, I may help students brainstorm ways to take their "Science Fair" to the next level; making it more visually appealing and eye catching. We develop and refine ideas so that students can communicate the theme of their project in a creative and exciting way!
It is important that students have the resources to create and work out ideas through trial and error, allowing them to arrive at a visual solution that they are both happy with and sometimes even surprised by!
We will be using paint and pastels to create visually appealing borders and imagery for projects of all varieties; from our Annual Science Fair to our Holiday Art Auction. All the paper and tape will also be used to support these student projects and their need for quality supplies to create stunning display boards.
