"Virescit vulnere virtus" is Latin for "courage grows strong at the wound". I believe that we are first attracted to the arts when something more beautiful than what we experience should be created. Art mends the broken soul and is important to those who are called to creation.
My students are not offered the art elective; there is no art teacher or class available at our school.
Though KMS is outstanding in academics, community, and so many areas, the visual arts are lacking. One student of mine explained they aren't allowed to draw at home because their parents don't think they are good enough, so it's a waste of time. Another student told me their parents think art isn't important, so they don't let them draw at home. With no access to an art class and no ability for a creative outlet at home, the KMS Art Club has filled the void.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will enrich student experience in the artistic process. Despite the debate that only some works are truly "real" art and others are not, I believe that the artistic process, not the final product, is what is most important. By handing my students the tools of a master illustrator, I place the ability and power of potential into their hands. With the right tools and mediums, my students will refine their skills with confidence.
This donation will excite students about the craft and encourage their creativity.
The high-end markers, pencils, and paper will be used for student projects, both personal pieces and for art shows. The personal impact on the students will be immeasurable. It will be their safe place to grow as an artist and refine their skills with the right tools. These supplies will enable the club members to reach their full artistic potential.
