Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When someone walks into my classroom, they can't help but be amazed by the incredible, nineteen first graders who greet me every day! These small children have such immense hearts. They are filled with a strong desire to learn and make their parents proud.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch and ninety percent of my students speak English as a second language.
Even though many of my students live in small cramped apartments in a busy, inner city, they never complain and always seem happy with what they have.
My students are curious, energetic, playful and full of excitement when learning new things. They love hands-on activities, especially ones that involve arts and crafts, science experiments and engineering projects. I am so lucky to have this job. I am thankful every day!
My Project
My twenty-one English Language Learners need lots of fun arts and crafts materials in order to express themselves and their learning.
Children are happiest when they are able to express themselves and their ideas!
Having plenty of wonderful arts and craft materials available for students is just what they need to level the playing field. Even if students are struggling with academics or speaking English, they are able to use art materials to express their thoughts and ideas. Some of the activities students will be able generate using these arts and crafts materials are puppets of characters in books, dioramas of scenes from books, individualized theme related writing books, group created clay stories and illustrated math story problems.
