Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very talented, young individuals who come from a high poverty section of New York. They face challenges inside the school to succeed and do their best, and they struggle outside of school to not allow their environment to stop them from achieving their dreams. We are a one hundred percent free lunch school. Our students strive to become role models and leaders for their community.
Coming to art class is an opportunity for my students to express themselves creatively and to free their minds of the obstacles they face.
My students are from all over the world and they bring the knowledge of their cultures to my class, which in turn, results in the most creative masterpieces.
My Project
I was just lucky enough to find out the last week of school that I will be moving to a classroom three times the size of my current room. I am so excited, but there is NO dry erase board. NOTHING! The only thing that my room has for a quick demo is a very time chalk board. Seriously tiny. The room is so large that the students in the back would never be able to see. I have requested a mobile dry erase/easel for my art room. This mobile easel will allow me to bring them all around my classroom so my students can have an up close art lesson instead of having a hard time seeing the board in the front of the room. This easel will allow for groups to be formed in class so that my students don't have to be working on the same activity at the same time. The new whiteboard/easel will make the possibilities for activities endless. My students will have the opportunity to teach their fellow classmates about their different cultures through their artwork.
