Art Class Needs a Creative and Cozy Library Space!
My students need an a carpet, comfy couch, and Get Into Art book series for quiet library space for reading and learning. They can use this space for a quiet break or for reading about art when they complete a project.
I teach art at an elementary school with students from all over the world. We have refugee students who come from countries such as Iraq, Syria and Somalia among others. Some students have very little to no english while many of our students come from low income households. In addition, we have lots of social, emotional and behavioral needs. The diversity at our school makes it a great place to teach and learn.
To meet the needs of all our students, our teachers and staff work incredibly hard to help them succeed.
As an art teacher, I feel that my classroom is a great place for all students to be inspired, be creative, express themselves and learn about the world around them.
My Project
My students need an a carpet, comfy couch, and Get Into Art book series for quiet library space for reading and learning. The art books, rug and furniture will create a calming and comfortable space for students to read and appreciate art. Many students need to take breaks and refocus, and this space would allow them to do that. The space is also an area that would allow students to learn about art and artists through literacy. When time is available at the end of class, students can use the books and furniture to extend their learning about art.
At the moment, my 'library' consists of old books that are falling apart and 2 flimsy chairs for seating.
I want to create a space that is inviting, calming and comfortable in order to give my students the opportunity to read about and develop a greater appreciation for art.
