Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My student are in a Title One public school in East Harlem, NYC. Watching my student’s eyes light up in my Visual Arts class makes my heart melt. They are full of energy and have so much love for art. They come to art class every day with open arms and are always fully engaged in everything I want to teach them. They have a passion for art that any teacher would dream of. Their excitement of being creative and turning their dreams into works of art are the reason I became a teacher. They love hands-on, messy activities and working collaboratively to watch their art work come to life. They engage in deep conversations and disect works of art of all mediums and then they try their absolute hardest to master the skills necessary to create their own pieces. Art matters to my students. I have planted the seed, now I just need some support to help them grow.
My Project
The students in my class are beginning a unit on painting and their creativity and projects are slowly taking over my room with no safe place to dry. I would really love to have a drying rack for the classroom so that their art work could remain in the best possible condition. Right now they leave their work in all corners and sometimes even on the floor. Sometimes their work gets damaged when the projects tend to overlap each other because of the thick layers of paint. Having this rack would not only preserve their work but also bring some organization to the art room.
