Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have amazing students each year in PreK. My students are four and five years old. Most of them come from low socioeconomic families who are engaged and active in their children's lives. My students are bright, energetic and wonderful. Each day they come to school ready to learn, share and create, and there is no doubt I have learned a great deal from them, too.
Learning is hands-on and active.
Our room is safe and a place where my students want to be.
My Project
If you want to see a smile on a child's face watch them as they show you their first work of art. When they see us smile back at them it's priceless.
My students' imaginations are so amazing.
I want to fill their day with opportunities for expression and creativity! My students are constantly coming up to me with great ideas of our projects that they would love to do in class and I would love to make this available to them. My dream is for our classroom to be filled with amazing personal works of art from all my students. My biggest challenge is that the budget given to purchase art supplies is very slim. My students are the sweetest, brightest-eyed angels you could meet. They love art and creativity. It is amazing to listen to them describe in detail what they are creating. The amount of vocabulary used is impressive. Most of my students come from low income homes, and a majority are raised by a single parent who is struggling. This often means art supplies at home are not abundant and what we offer at school is their only opportunity to be exposed to art.
Art activities are a wonderful way for children to express their emotions, their imaginations, hopes and dreams. They will be creating collages, sculptures, jewelry and pattern art. Each work will be unique and something to be very proud of.
