This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are multifaceted in every positive way. They love to use art as a means to express themselves. Some of their art is based on the personal experiences they have had or things they have learned in the classroom. The enthusiasm that they bring each day helps them to foster the creativity that they show in their works of art. Our school is a high performing charter school in Washington DC. Recent test scores have put us in the top 10 charters in the district despite our high poverty levels.
My Project
All of these amazing books will help to support my students with learning about various artists and how they relate to the projects they are working on. When starting on our projects, the stories from these books will help shape the foundation as to what the artists' approach to getting their inspirations from their art along with integrating literacy.
Books, no matter what genre, help to hook the reader into the subject matter and also help builder greater connections with themselves.
This will help my students to think more critically about how their art connects with the past and present-day artists.
