My students who live in Willits are eager young learners that love learning to read, engaging in discussions, and exploring science and math concepts. Willits is a small rural community with limited resources. Many of my students live in homes that are isolated and far from the comforts and convenience of larger cities. They ride the bus sometimes for hours a day in order to come to school. The school district is very small and does not have a budget for many of the basic supplies that students need to learn.
We need more painting supplies for the classroom. We do art every week and the supplies run out too quickly. I would like to replace the traditional watercolors with these tempera discs since they last longer and are easier to share in groups. Often the traditional watercolors run out of one color quickly and can only be used a few times before they are useless. If one color of a tempera cake runs out I can quickly pop in a new one to the reusable tray. This will make it easier for me to prepare for art lessons as students can just grab the trays instead of having to wait for me to pour out tiny globs of liquid tempera paint.
