My class is composed of children who are diverse in many aspects of life, including their social and economic backgrounds.
Our classroom is a place where they come together to build a community, where everyone feels safe and valued, regardless of their differences.
Within this community, my students are engaged in activities that are hands-on and based on their interests and needs. For many of my students, my classroom is their first introduction into a formal school setting. My hope for my students is that they will leave my classroom with a love for learning, and will be excited about the rest of their journey through school!
My Project
Whether it's special projects or creating at free choice centers, my students love art! I love the opportunities art provides to see children's individual creativity, processing skills, and perspective.
We complete an art project weekly, and we can use these materials to complete so many exciting projects before the end of the year!
One example is our "All About Me" art, where we use oil pastels and watercolors to create unique backgrounds before putting a photograph of the student surrounded by words about all of their favorite things.
We will also be reading books by Eric Carle, and creating a collaborative art piece as a grade level in his style and featuring his characters. To do this, we will be needing a lot of tempera paint and using a variety of tools including brushes, sponges, and string to paint with texture.
