This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom looks like organized chaos. Students come in the classroom and start the day with a character building activity.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
Each day is a challenge and joy at the same time. They are a class of energetic 9 years old eager to learn and have fun at the same time. Coming from a very rural, high poverty area, school is a saving grace for many. We have students who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness. This is a challenge within itself. Most students come to me each day with way more on their minds than school. Often the night before, or the morning before school brings heartache to some. Someone may have been arrested, shot, fighting, etc.. You name it and most have seen it. I am doing my best to help them overcome these trials and tribulations and become the most successful individual they can.
Our school is a 100% Free Lunch School located in rural Mississippi.
My Project
One area that my students are lacking in is Art. The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will allow for student growth in Art. The crayons, ink, labels, and card stock will help students accomplish this.
Art is one of the building blocks of child development.
Integrating art with other disciplines reaches students who might not otherwise be engaged in classwork.
Art allows students to collaborate and communicate with each other. It also allows students to think critically and be creative and expressive. Art allows students to take creative thoughts out of their heads and turn them into something spectacular.
