This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are three and four years old years old and experiencing school for the first time. They need a warm and caring environment which we strive to provide each and every day. They will learn through centers and small group activities. During center time they will guide their own imaginations and learning through the materials we make available.
These creative three and four year olds, need opportunities to use their imaginations!
This class loves to create and build. I want to give them opportunities to use those imaginations in every center. I love the freedom they have during our center block, but I want to give them more robust materials to encourage literacy and math skills.
My Project
My three and four year olds love our art center. The materials in this center help them to use their imaginations to build on the literacy and math skills we introduce during whole group lessons.
The collage materials and markers will give them opportunities to create new masterpieces.
The play dough will let my sensory seeking students build finger and hand strength which will lead to writing skills. We also use play dough in small group lessons to count and form letters. The play dough is used so often that we are running out with half a year to go. We also use the dry erase markers to draw and practice writing in all of our centers.
