This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year, my students are in LOVE with our art center. They are building fine and gross motor skills by painting at the easel, using scissors, and squeezing glue bottles to create beautiful works of art.
These creative three and four year olds need these opportunities to use their imaginations!
Many of my students have never held a pair of scissors or a paintbrush before they entered my classroom. We're giving new experiences across our centers and art is no exception.
My Project
The art center lets them explore and create, based on conversations we've had about our studies. We aren't just creating pictures for the refrigerator; we're expanding our brains by integrating math and literacy skills into our works of art. We're making connections to our investigations and units of study.
Every day students choose the Art Center, and this center is the favorite in my classroom!
I've seen students who were able to engage in independent work for less than two minutes at the beginning of the year, stand at the easel and paint for 15 minutes or more. We make patterns with pom poms and tissue paper, and play letter detective to find letters.
