My students need a class pack of whiteboard markers for math and language arts time, a Mineral Science Kit, two dozen scissors and 32 Watercolors Paint Sets for a variety of activities.
Our class has become a wonderful little family. The students do a lot of group and partner work, and ask one another for help on a regular basis. We are a musical class. We write rap songs in our science and social studies units, and then perform them in front of each other. We love Harry Potter!
This year, there are 28 students in our wonderful 5th grade class.
There are A LOT of boys in our classroom. There are 17 boys, and only 11 girls. The students in this class love to dance and sing! Anytime we can incorporate this into the school day, we do. The students also still enjoy being read to. This year, we have read Wonder and The Golden Compass. The students here are savvy with technology. They have school gmail accounts, can type, and enjoy making online presentations. We are putting on a school play (Peter Pan), and the kids are super excited! Our school is very small. There are around 350 students here. We have a tight community. Each upper grade class is paired with a lower grade class, and they do "Buddy" activities, which helps our school community.
My students need a class pack of whiteboard markers for math and language arts time, a Mineral Science Kit, play money and two dozen scissors and 32 Watercolors Paint Sets for a variety of activities Whiteboard markers will be used daily during math and language arts. Students answer questions on their whiteboards to make our lessons more interactive. Watercolor paints will be used for art. We have not had any paints all year, since we were in the portables and there was no running water. Now, however, we are in a "real" classroom, and can finally use paint! Scissors will be used for a variety of activities. The rock collection will be helpful when learning about rocks in science. Students will be able to test the rocks and classify them. The play coins will be used to help students grasp the concept of decimals. It will also make decimal computation more accessible to students who need extra help.
Donating these items to our classroom will help students greatly, especially with science and math.
The rock kit will be a hands on way for students to understand the concept, as will the use of play money when using decimals in math. It will help make these concepts more concrete, and accessible.
