I am an Art teacher in an elementary school where our children are bright, curious, delightful and unfortunately without means. Most are new immigrants who grapple with learning English and our culture while their parents work hard to make ends meet. I see about 500 young students a week and in an effort to bring them the best I have created a unit that joins Art and Science called "A.C.E.S.- Artists, Composers, Explorers, and Scientists- Which are you?" To me and the children, Art is an essential link to learning, especially for ESL children who need hands on experiences. The New York Hall of Science has several exhibits on Art and Science. I can get yellow Dept of Ed school buses to bring the whole Third Grade, about 100 kids, to the NY Hall of Science for free but the admission price is too steep for their struggling families. By financing this trip, you will be giving 100 deserving children an experience they will never forget. And I will be able to link this experience to Art projects in the classroom. My A.C.E.S. program is designed to have the children identify themselves as artists, composers, explorers or scientists. You can help empower these kids, enabling and inspiring them with a memorable trip to the NY Hall of Science. Thank you for your generosity!
