This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Art is a great way for my students to share their creativity, demonstrate what they've learned, and share their thoughts visually with others. It also provides a creative, aesthetic component to math and science, which can often be difficult concepts for younger students.

My students are gifted first through fourth graders whose primary curriculum involves research and presentation of their projects.

While all of the projects incorporate art in one way or another, two of them specifically address art. We are asking for crayons, papers, and basic art supplies to use primarily for these projects.

My Project

First grade's project is called Art Smart. They study art techniques and the art styles of different artists, create pieces of art in these styles, and then create an individual piece of art using what they have learned. The final product is a "museum" of their art pieces. Having these books about the artists we study will not only improve their understanding of the art, but add to their literacy library. Third grade's project is called The Art of Math in Nature. The students not only look at the mathematical aspects of nature but how these relate to art (Golden Ratio/Phi, spirals, symmetry, tessellations, mosaic patterns, etc.) For their final product, students work in groups to create a learning center for other students explaining one of these areas of interests.

These books, paper, crayons, and particularly the racks, trays, and paint cups, which will be used from year to year, will allow us to enrich and extend further than we have been able to in the past and will offer a wider variety of experiences for my students.
