Help me give my students these 30 acrylic paint pen markers and 3D Solutech filament for students to design in 2D, create in 3D, and personalize their artistic projects.
My middle school students are caring, curious, creative, and yes, sometimes comedians. We are not an affluent community. Despite the real-life challenges many are facing daily, my students are quite involved in school life, sports, and clubs. I feel it is important for them to develop, especially, the following habits of mind: persistence, resilience, attention to details, and flexibility. They are creative and innovative but I would like them to bring their projects to the next level.
I’m hoping to inspire my students to add uniqueness to their projects, and to not be satisfied with “good enough”.
After all, my learners of today will become our innovators and future leaders of tomorrow. They need to be developing skills that will help them be successful in life, to be ready to take on what life throws their way.
My Project
To push our 3D learning opportunities further and to add an individualized artistic flair to the process, students will be challenged to sketch a design solution to a problem in 2D, learn the new software application to convert a 2D image into a 3D object, and once the rendering is completed, 3D print the object to evaluate for quality.
Using the 3D Solutech filament and the acrylic paint markers, students will then personalize and colorize the final 3D object.
You ask why convert 2D to 3D? Being able to render an image to deliver a 3D object gives student designers an additional tool to evaluate their designed creation. Having an understanding of 3D software is an important design skill and increases your marketability as a designer in today's changing world of work.
