My students need to come to school with supplies waiting for them. Instructional time is so often wasted arguing over "where is your pencil?" Having ink, pens, pencils, highlighters, binder clips, a stapler, and globe will save time.
I am a German teacher and Special Education Geography teacher at the high school level. My German classroom is a mixture of 9-12 grade students, mostly 9th grade. My Geography classroom is a mixture as well of students 9-12 grades. Their abilities also cover a wide range.
I am looking to increase the comfort level for students in the high school setting and specifically within my classroom.
I am working with many underprivileged students without home access to cell phones or computers, printers, in addition other school supplies. I and would like to provide a classroom where the students HAVE access to a printer, school supplies, etc. to work well with our class Chromebooks. Students need to be able to be successful while they have access to the technology at school.
My students are living in an area of changing demographics. The task of coming to school prepared with all of their supplies is a daily challenge.
My Project
Having supplies waiting in the classroom will not only help the students to feel comfortable and accepted but also boost relationship between students and the teacher.
Time should not be wasted arguing over "where are your supplies for class?" Students will not learn or be open to new information if they are sitting in the class worrying about others judging them.
I teach many underprivileged students and having a pencil or a pen waiting in the classroom would help a great deal. Learning and teaching is what I want going on in my classroom, not worrying about not having a pencil. I am looking for pens, pencils, and highlighters to be able to hand out as needed during my class. I would also like to give students the option to print out assignments in my classroom as many families do not have printers at home.
The request of a globe is to aid my teaching of Geography. My classroom has an outdated globe from which we practice and learn. The Soviet Union is still located on this globe. I desperately wish to update to a current depiction of our countries and land usage.
Binder clips and a working stapler are necessities for a classroom to work efficiently. Organization of classroom materials aid students in their own organizational efforts. In my special education classroom, frequent absences are a problem. Clipping and organizing student work is of utmost importance when trying to keep students up to date with our course work and materials.
