Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The student athletes attend an urban school with over eighteen hundred students. The students are eager to learn, curious, and creative both on and off the court. They are hard workers and love to play, especially sports. They are looking to improve their athleticism, peer bonding, and school team pride through play. During the school day they spend their time learning basic drills to prepare them for competitive play. The level of players always varies; some players are new to sports while others have played before. All girls and boys grades kindergarten through 5th are welcome and eager to learn more each and every week. Now they just need a few practice supplies to help them push their skills to a higher level. At this time, they lack the equipment needed to play and interact.
Many of the student athletes are young boys and girls who have not yet thrived in other academic areas.
For some, sports is their only successful activity. Play provides a unique opportunity since both boys and girls of all ages can participate together. Sports activities also gives them life skills such as teamwork and perseverance.
My Project
The tether balls with ropes will help our whole student body improve their fitness by allowing them to exercise their body, mind and heart while also improving their hand eye coordination. It will help students understand the meaning of good sportsmanship as well as providing them with new fun equipment as an addition to our existing poles. All students will learn the necessary playing skills to compete against their peers. This includes hitting a swinging ball with either an open or closed hand. Once the entire school has learned how to play correctly during PE, they will be able to to have tether ball as a recess activity.
