My students need a well made rug to sit on during shared activities. I have chosen one with the world map and international flags to encourage interest in other cultures.
There is nothing nicer in a classroom than quality time spent sitting together on the rug sharing information and ideas with students. It can be a magical time.
Our second grade class is made up of a diverse group of enthusiastic seven and eight year old children.
Many of them have come to the United States from other countries and I try to use that as a chance to learn about other cultures.
We need a save rug for our classroom and I think this one is perfect. It will encourage my students to share and learn about other countries and cultures.
My Project
I have been told that the rugs I have in my classroom, although cute, are not thick enough to meet safety standards. I want to have a safe learning environment where children are comfortable at both their desks and during carpet time. Basically we need at least one nice rug and I believe that the one I have selected for this project is a perfect learning tool! It has a world map surrounded by flags from various countries.
I like to teach my students about other cultures and this rug is perfect for encouraging cultural learning.
I can just imagine how excited my students will be when I read to them about a holiday in another country or the customs when a child looses a tooth and they will be able to identify the flag and the location of the country on the carpet. I look forward to many exciting learning lessons using this rug!
