Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are a diverse group of high-schoolers. They come from various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. They are all good kids who come to school each and every day for new opportunities to learn and improve. Despite their enthusiasm, our high school still lacks the tools and supplies necessary to educate them equally. Our high school is a 9-12th grade school with over 600 students.
Even though a few have been able to experience life by traveling all over the world, most have never left the city they live in.
There is little opportunity to travel when every paycheck goes towards the essentials. I believe students should come to school to expand their experiences and lives, and unfortunately, the education system is not providing students with the best it can.
My Project
With the donation of DIY VR cardboard glasses & headphones, my students will be able to experience the world right from the classroom. This rare opportunity will help improve student engagement by making direct connections to our world. Too many times, we talk about various places around the world or even in America, and students never get a chance to see or experience them.
With the help of these glasses and headphones, students will be able to EXPERIENCE the trenches of WWI, Pearl Harbor, Normandy, or anywhere else in the world without spending a dime!
Virtual reality is the way of the future and the future is now. The technological availability of affordable VR glasses for students in the classroom is a breakthrough in education. Students can now experience the world in front of their face, as if they were there. This will excite students to be in the classroom and want to learn about historical events. What better way to help with student engagement than by putting them in the middle of the event we are studying!
