This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students I work with come from all different walks of life. The majority of my students are learning to speak English. Many of them are the only English speakers in their households. My students are behind academically, but show so much potential.
The best part about my students is their sense of curiosity.
I often find myself shocked with the amount of things my students see and deal with on a daily basis. However, when they are at school, they truly want to know about everything. They are inquisitive, refreshing, and creative. All my students truly want to learn and do well, they just need intentional opportunities.
My Project
The rug that is in my classroom has seen better days. This rug will benefit the class by giving them a clean space to meet with one another for morning meeting. As morning meetings is one of the most important times of the day, it is extremely important to have a clean and engaging space to talk and listen to each other.
I was intentional about the rug that I choose knowing how much my students love learning about different places.
It is my hope that this rug will provide a space for discussions about the world, people, and other cultures.
