Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page," said St. Augustine of Hippo. Unfortunately, my students rarely have the opportunity to travel outside their region. The lack of exposure to the world around them limits their understanding of history.

Our region is consistently recognized as one of the most impoverished areas of the United States.

My students, although eager to learn, have limited tools and resources to assist in their learning. Most persevere with the little resources they have, but ALL of my students' capabilities could be fully realized if they had more tools at hand. In addition, by attending a college prep academy in a low income region, these students are pushed to levels of achievement that even they are surprised to reach. With your help, my students will more likely achieve a greater understanding of their world, and most will be the first in their families to attain a college degree.

My Project

With personal write-on desk maps and markers, my students will more easily understand factors leading to historical events, such as geography, climate, and access to water. Each day I will ask my students to identify which region of the world we are discussing and list characteristics of that region that affect the region's development. Students will be able to write quick notes about regions on their write-on desk maps to help them better remember the impact of different civilizations during different eras of history.

Even in today's world, there are some things technology cannot replace.

Maps are important for a student's learning process, and with your help, my students will have daily access to identifying and understanding different regions of the world. My students and I thank you so much in advance for your help and consideration!
