I am a first year teacher of a class of 30 fifth graders, most of whom live in public housing and homeless shelters. My students are wonderful and I love my job! Unfortunately, we need some materials. Time is a very important factor in everything we do, and the materials I am requesting will help teach time and time management. The first item is a time tracker, which lights up with green, yellow and red light a stoplight. It enables students to better track time during tests, a critical aspect of education today. The students will be able to know how much time is left, and with the visual aid of the colors the students will be better prepared for test-taking. The second item is a hall pass timer. My students love to have fun, and I don't mind except when it is not education related, and especially not in the hallway. So, with this digital hall pass timer, the students will have a set time to leave the classroom and return. This is crucial for a class like mine where discipline can be a constant issue! Next, some digital stop watches. I try to teach science using experiments, since it illustrates the ideas more concretely in the students' minds. The digital stop watches will allow us to complete a variety of experiments that explain physics, biology, and chemistry. Finally, I would like some compasses. These will allow my students to complete a variety of vital math problems, but also draw a clock of their own! My students are a wonderful group who only need a fair shake at a good education. With these materials, you will greatly help my students succeed. You will help make education fun and exciting, hopefully igniting in them a desire to continue to learn!
