My Students

I am in my 11th year of teaching and currently teach second grade at a Title I public school in Oregon. Our elementary school serves students from kindergarten to fifth grade. More than 65% of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch, as many families are of low socioeconomic status. This percentage seems to grow every year in our community.

The opportunity to attend this conference will affect not only my current students but students I get the chance to teach in years to come by providing myself with proven techniques that help all children succeed. My colleagues and I would like to give our students the opportunity to learn and grow in a classroom full of innovative ideas and engaging strategies.

My Project

I would like to attend the three-day training, which offers in-depth professional development workshops led by over 50 educators, including Dave Burgess and Kim Bearden. This is a unique and powerful opportunity to be able to learn from master teachers and their proven methods that have led to student success.

The educator training focuses on increasing student engagement and attendance, teaching creatively while achieving high test scores, and creating a climate and culture that promotes student success and engagement.

“When you are passion-filled, you also become more personally fulfilled as an educator” (Teach Like a Pirate, Burgess, page 10).

My colleagues and I are looking forward to this opportunity to bring passion back into our school as we learn together and collaborate on ways to share what we learn at this conference.
