A typical day in my classroom is creating multiple and alternative ways for students to express their needs and to express about what they are learning. The saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" is very true in my classroom. My students use pictures to communicate with those around them.
My students have special learning needs and communication needs.
My students range from Kindergarten through third grade. They are with me for the entire school day. We are in a general public school and follow specialized instructional goals. The students have many needs that are addressed within the school day and classroom setting. My students are lovable and are always eager to learn. They want to tell you about their day in their own ways. I love going to work because of my students.
My Project
Just because a child can "talk" does not mean that they can communicate. My students will use the picture cards and speaking blocks to communicate their wants and needs to those around them. They will use the blocks and pictures in order to answer questions about what they are learning and to have a conversation about a topic of choice. My students will learn new words by hearing the buttons talk to them and be able to say what they want or need without having behavioral meltdowns.
This project will make a difference in my students life by helping them learn new vocabulary and by helping them to communicate to others.
This project will help students to have an alternative method of communicating to others without having to resort to inappropriate behaviors.
