Kindergarten is an exciting time and my students are in the process of discovering the world around them. My students are from a small, rural community, that is culturally diverse, but also predominately low income, high poverty. They are eager to learn and yearn for new experiences and knowledge despite being limited to the small town where we live. We are a Title I school, but we work hard to excel each day. All of our school’s staff work hard to provide an individualized education as well as a positive learning environment.
My Project
This will be my first official year in kindergarten and I still feel like there are some basic classroom items that my classroom is lacking. Classroom organization always seems to be a problem. Since we do not have individual desks, we use round tables for groups of students.
We are definitely lacking storage for student materials and I believe that chair pouches would help.
If my students had chair pouches, then that would free up their cubby space, help traffic flow, and eliminate students forgetting things in their cubby and having to get up and disrupt lessons.
My students would also benefit from number clothespins so that they could not only put them in order and learn numbers, but it would be a better way to respect the privacy of the students that had to move their clip that day.
