Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The project I propose involves hands-on gel boards to stimulate student learning in math. Gel boards are a great way to help students learn and will increase classroom participation. The gel board uses a safe non-toxic gel that allows students to write magnetically with a magnet pen, which costs a fraction of what markers costs. They make classroom clean-up easy, leaving more time for learning! One activity students will be doing is called math jeopardy, based on the TV game show Jeopardy. Here, the teacher states an "answer" and students write the correct question. As on the TV game, students' responses must be in the form of questions. In this way, students use individual gel boards to review content before a unit test or to improve skills in all areas of math. This is a method that keeps the whole class actively involved. These activities will take place on an almost daily basis, and the jeopardy games for review and reinforcement will occur at the end of each unit. I want my students to enjoy learning with fun activities. These gel boards are a terrific tool for learning and will provide a means for immediate feedback and assessment. Students learn with active participation. I am requesting 60 gel boards so that each of my math students can have one. Thank you!
